Coral reefs

  • Coral reefs are with no doubt the most beautiful ecosystems on the face of the earth. Their great array of shapes and colors not only attract us, but also numerous species that have decided to make them their permanent or temporary habitat. Therefore, reefs are one of the most diverse and productive ecosystems in the planet.
Coral reefs provide fish and marine invertebrates (mollusks, crustaceans, starfish, urchins, etc.) with a great range of habitats where can they find refuge, food, and proper conditions to reproduce.
Due to practical and ecological reasons, the Aquarium has two different yet typical coral reef environments: coral branches or shallow area and the stony corals or deep area.
