Sandy beaches and rocky cliffs
The coastal marine environment that we are most familiarized with are sandy beaches and rocky cliffs, since it is where we frequently go for leisure.
The fauna and flora in this type of habitat is not very diverse or abundant. A characteristic of the animals that live on the sandy sea bottom is that they are rarely visible, since most of them are silver-colored, such as fish, or whitish, such as certain crabs or mollusks; this helps them disguise themselves since they mimic the sandy bottom or the bright light of the sun reflected on the surface of the water when seen from below. Some fish species found in this type of environment are the Silver Jenny and Spotfin Mojarra (Eucinostomus gula and E. argenteus), Brazilian Silversides (Xenomelaniris brasiliensis), Hairy Blenny (Labrisomus nuchipinnis), Yellowfin Mojarra (Gerres cinereus), and in some places, the mouse or Bonefish (Albula vulpes).
