Seagrass meadows
- Very few people are familiarized with such a quite productive ecosystem near the shore, as the plants called seagrass or marine phanerogam; also known as turtle grass, since certain species of marine turtles feed off this grass. Fishermen in Venezuela know it as limo. When seen underwater, this grass looks a lot like the grass in our gardens, although the leaves are longer and darker. A great diversity of marine organisms live among these plants; some fish species you can find in this habitat are small Parrotfish and juveniles of other species, such as the Spotted Pigfish, Yellowtail Snapper, etc. This ecosystem is also home to certain mollusks of great importance, such as the Queenconch.
