Cartilaginous fishes
- Another feature that characterizes them, besides their cartilaginous skeleton, is their very small scales, which are a kind of dermal denticle, also called placoid scales.
- Another characteristic feature of this group is that the males have external copulatory organs joined to the pelvic fins, which means that fertilization is internal and, in many cases, the embryo develops inside the mother as in the case of mammals.
- They are all carnivores and do not have an air bladder.
