Trae artículos sobre el Lago de Maracaibo, Maracapana, Margarita, Golfo de Paria, Río Orinoco (en un artículo muy extenso). Cuando menciona el lago de Maracaibo dice: “MARACAIBO Lake, is an inland gulf of the country called Terra Firma, on the N coast of the Spanish Main or S America, within the gulf of Venezuela, etc. Notwithstanding the many rivers which this lake receives, yet the tide that flows into it renders the water brackish. Its navigation however is greatly impeded by the island at the entrance, so that small vessels only of from 25 to 30 tons come up to the town; but in these it carries on a good trade in manufactures and merchandise from places near the lake, which are afterwards put on board as Spanish vessels that come hither to procure them. Vessels are also built here that trade all over America, and even into Spain, as it is very commodious for that employment. The inhabitants carry on a good trade, by the navigation of this lake, with those of New Granada”.
